The Moon & The Lake, Split Rock Lighthouse

In Uncategorized on March 30, 2010 at 8:42 pm

Sleep in late
wake up to pan cakes
head out on highway 61
get to the place we set out to get done
Split Rock light house
hike til it’s lights out
skipping stones on the lake
pan of ziti, re bake
dinner easy stay up late
Rescue Dawn with Christian Bale
true to life dude went thru hell
a year in Laos as a P O W
surviving in the jungle til the copters came thru

get lost staring at the lake, gotta blame the view
the crashing of the waves, the angle of the moon
shinning down, so strange and so blue
so ancient but still new
feels like god staring down on the water
burning into the eyes, the mind of this author

Golden Birthday for Vision The Kid

In Weekend Rap-Up on March 29, 2010 at 7:28 pm

Driving up Highway 61, thoughts of Dylan
Lake Superior, mixtape time filling
Enter the time share with time to spare
spread liquor on the table
fill the fridge
take shots to 26, look out at the the ridge
the trees and the lake
feel it must be fate
or something moving in it’s wake
that brought me here this late
10 pm
Kirstin and Joe get in,
we pour more shots, more dirty word mad libs
Mojito’s and Soco
Miller Lite and Cheez Whiz
already 4 am, the night breezes in
we sleep in, wake up
pancakes, bake up
fall in love down by Gooseberry falls
trails, jesus sticks and everyone of the dogs
Homeless Jay tells us it’s time to go away
we make it to Fat N Happy
we make it to Betty’s Pies
the sun is sinking low already in the sky

About 630 as more friends arrive

Baked ziti and italian
bread we eat like stallions
take a walk on the beach
the beach is black rocks
used by the geese and the waves and the docks
we get mud on our socks
head back to the room
for an hour, no energy consumed
lights off for the earth
the one who gave us birth

Then it’s off to the pool
Delta Chi think they cool
we party with the frat
til they get sent back
to they rooms, it’s cool
we graduated, they still in school
we hit up the bar like there’s no tomorr
ow then we go back to the crib
dance moves off the chain, we all settle in

some pass out, some find their beds
all go to sleep happy
with thoughts of corn dogs in their heads
And I look out
on the black lake
with the white moon overhead
and think about fate
A hip poet, who knows it
with great friends and much love
who thanks yall for showing it

Best and the Brightest, Shine in the Nightest

In Uncategorized on March 25, 2010 at 5:37 pm

I lift my head I’m ready
deadly as the serengeti
rapping like spaghetti
round a fork
I balk at your course of action of course
mine has been never slacking
half a damn year with this rap a day rapping
cuz i know once the door close there’s no going back in
never relaxing
the doodles out my noodle will undo you
kung fu crews
into oblivion, I blue ribbon them
beat em once, claim it forever
lay them down one measure
at a time write right off the ledger
Heath, oops, sometimes i’m a little too clever, be
hard to understand, like yellow leadbetter, see
me in my younger grunge days
rearranged, call it feng shui
smoked so much my lungs ache
i’m trying to recuperate
friends don’t cooperate
can’t blame em
one rhyme won’t change em
fall back on the couch
change jangling
in my pocket
wondring how to rock it
next how to Herbie Hancock it
catch me in the sky on some top of the Hancock shit

Which Bar Should We Go To? MPLS ed.

In Uncategorized on March 24, 2010 at 5:19 pm

Should I go up to Bryant Lake Bowl
to take a load off?
or grab some Kobe beef burgers at The Bulldog?
How bout hit up Nami for some happy hour sushi?
cheap drinks at The Library? that’s a little too douchey
a little too young of a crowd now/ so how bout
Red Dragon for a French Lemonade?
Chicken wings at Legends on a Thursday?
Williams for the Chicago hot dogs and the peanuts
Karaoke at Vegas Lounge, where they know we nuts

Our kind of fun

What about Sneaky Pete’s?
ain’t been there since Chris Jack came out
Nintendo at Chatterbox?
such a clutch place to hang out
of course there’s the locals
like Grumpy’s and Mayslack’s
or how bout we hit up Gasthof’s
for some Das Boot payback?

if that’s not enough let’s hit up
Nye’s for that polka guy
Club Jager’ll leave us stagger
the VFW up in uptown
got the cheap drinks locked down
331 if we feel like some folk
Acme comedy if we wanna hear a joke
Sound Bar sounds far but my man works the door
if you even suggest Bar Fly, i will have to ignore
I’d say Aqua, but the Club is done
can’t be too well dressed for our kind of fun

But whatever you say
above all others
just promise me
you’ll never go to Brothers

Grim Reaper of Song

In Uncategorized on March 23, 2010 at 7:18 pm

Vision
the sight and the sounds
living
outright and out loud
timing
is everything, something you can’t measure
rhyming
is my life, my love and my pleasure
(you’re welcome)
my outcome is undetermined
some nights i’m overworked
some days i’m under burdened
always under employed
i’m still trying to write
to drive away the words
that wake me in the night
to stay somewhat steady
until i find the light
and don’t have to scramble through this life
searching for sight

Dying to be heard
my words ring out like sirens
the only sign of
something wrong
in a city that is dying
i’m lying awake
legs twitching
itching for a good thought
a dream scape to get lost
in, i’ve already pushed off them
left the scene that I’m seen in
trying to find meaning
but others success is that much more demeaning
when your not living your life you dreamed, but still dreaming
something needs to break
i look for it out on the weekend
as i keep keeping on
bringing death to your words
like the grim reaper of song

Saturday at Vegas Lounge

In Weekend Rap-Up on March 22, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Cherries soaked in Everclear
bartender complains we’re never hear
neon bar lights pulse
my pulse speeds up
next thing I’m on stage
singing out my guts
alongside Tom Thai time slows down
having flashbacks to The Hot Box, only with a different sound

Nuff said

Miller Lites and high fives
middle fingers girls laughing
watching from across the bar
as we cross like shooting stars, raspy
voices, every conversation
in here is yelling
Proud Mary gets to telling
the blond bartender is selling
Ripping cigs out back
a year ago I quit that
but it don’t bother him
Vision low tolerance
been weeks since I went out like this
gonna be next week on some Birthday shit
gonna be real gone
won’t have the Vegas to fall back on
won’t have a mic to lay my rap on

pretty soon rides leaving
time to commence the dry heaving
no I’m not that drunk
the beer wasn’t that skunk
No I just need a little sleep
just a little pizza to eat
wake up on a Sunday suns out feeling fare
finally America’s got (somewhat) Universal health care!!

She Walked in Crystals

In Uncategorized on March 18, 2010 at 4:24 pm

“She never planned for things to ever go that way,

if you think the system’s working, ask somebody who ain’t”

– Speech

Do you believe in God? Have you met your saints?
Have you seen the Sistine? Have you learned to paint?
Can you tell the world your story?
in short form or allegory?
can you do it in a way that ain’t gonna bore me?
can you keep up with a rap a day blog?
can you see your way thru this hazardous fog?
can you find the light, in the dead of night
that will bring your ship to shore, that will steer you right?
will you fold fast or put up a fight?
when it comes to your dreams, will you use your might?
will you stand in a rainstorm with your key tied to a kite?
See, it’s not up to Vision to give you sight
an artist is there to provide the light
that shines into our lifes
enough so we can create
the space
for the changes that we need to make

My Hero

to lift the weight long enough
for us to get from under it
the truth in a treasure isn’t when you plunder it
but the fleeting few moments when you first discover it
admire it’s beauty, then go ahead and re-cover it
so the next to come along can feel that they found
and have the same sense of encountering the profound
i know it’s just some know how mixed with some pro-nouns
but hopefully they have found a home now
in your heart and your head
or somewhere under your bed
kept safe to be let out the safe
when the life gets lonely and the night gets dead
and you won’t need a light to read the words you just read
they’ll shine by themselves
they will glow from the shelves
and hopefully you can find some heaven
while your climbing thru hell

Blown Gasket

In Uncategorized on March 17, 2010 at 6:51 am

I go hard
like a blown gasket
leave you lying in an
unknown casket
my raps sick
like the tip
of a needle dipped
in anthrax
raps nuclear equipped
ready to rip
sucker punch and spit
could give two shits
about your two bit antics
your delivery is frantic
my flows lackadaisical
i could half try and still
rap you out your skull
i could rap in second life
you’d feel it in this one
like a voodoo doll on disc, son
i’m gripping the hearts
got em pumping like piston
sharpshooting
MCs into submission
trust it’s hard arguing with this one
Vision
shine like a goddamn diamond when I’m rhyming
